These are the best gluten free apple streusel muffins and are very much like a coffee cake. These muffins are so moist, loaded with fresh apples, oatmeal, and a sweet crunchy streusel top! I also drizzled a delicious vanilla glaze over each apple muffin.
I just love apple muffins in the fall and any time of the year! Muffins are so easy to make and you can have them for a quick breakfast, dessert, or a snack! The ingredients to make muffins are usually pantry staples.
I really like a muffin that has that special top. You know the one, where it’s a little higher and has a crispy edge with a sweet crunchy top! Because it’s all about the muffin top, lol only on muffins!
These gluten -free apple streusel muffins have that top which make them the best!
They are also so delicious!
About This Recipe
This Recipe uses simple pantry ingredients and so easy to make you’ll also clean up pretty quickly.
The recipe makes 12 muffins, which are the size of a cup cake.
My best gluten free apple streusel muffin recipe is gluten free with health ingredients. These apple streusel muffins can also be served as a fall dessert.
Ingredients
This recipe uses simple pantry ingredients that I use in many of my muffin recipes.
Apples- I used Granny Smith apples in this recipe but any variety of apple will work. I removed the peel. Tip ( you could use frozen apples but make sure they are thawed before adding to the batter)
Oat Flour- I used Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Oat Flour, but you could make your own. Use gluten free oats blending in a processor until a flour consistence.
Baking Powder- Read label making sure it’s gluten free.
Baking Soda- Reading label to make certain it’s gluten free.
Salt- Regular table salt.
Cinnamon- or pumpkin pie spice.
Brown Sugar- Granulated sugar works as well as organic sugar and coconut sugar.
Unsweetened Applesauce- I use this in place of oil and unsweetened because the recipe calls for sugar.
Eggs- Brown eggs are what I used in this recipe but white eggs will work too.
Gluten Free Vanilla- I used pure vanilla, imitation works as well make sure to check the label for gluten free.
1 Red Delicious Apple – peeled, core and diced, or apple of choice.
Streusel Topping Ingredients
Brown Sugar- Organic brown sugar, granulated sugar or coconut sugar are all ingredients that work well for the streusel topping.
Gluten free oats- as a streusel topping oats add to the crunch of the topping.
Gluten free vanilla- Pure or imitation vanilla will work in the topping mixture which helps to make the crunch.
Glaze Ingredients
Confectioners Sugar.
Oat milk- Regular milk or lactose intolerant skim milk, coconut milk, or almond milk can all be used in this recipe.
Vanilla- Gluten free pure vanilla, imitation vanilla will work as well making sure it’s gluten free.

Baked in a 350 degree oven for 18 to 20 minutes ( my oven bakes on confectionery so they take a bit longer to bake because it bakes at 325 degree) or until a cake tester comes out clean.
Tips
A few baking tips.
1- A little tip, I don’t use paper muffin liners as the gluten free muffin sticks to the liner. A foil liner or just spraying the muffin pan with cooking spray works best. Then add the liner after cooled.
2- Another tip if using frozen fruit make sure to thaw first before adding to the ingredients.
3- Tip number three, add fruit to the batter last and just fold the fruit in to the batter.
4- Not all oats are certified gluten free.
Step by Step Instructions
One- Whisk the dry ingredients together
Two- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and whisk together. Don’t over mix, just mix until all ingredients are blended together.
Three- Fold in the apples gentle blending them into the mixture.
Four- Using a 1/4 measuring cup scoop the batter evenly into a 12 cup muffin pan sprayed with cooking spray or use foil muffin cups.
Five- Make Streusel topping by adding brown sugar, oat’s, and vanilla, mixing with a small spoon, mixture with be a little crumbly and that’s what we want!
Six-Sprinkle the streusel topping using a spoon over the top of each muffin. It may get a little messy but that’s okay these are so worth it!
Seven- Bake in a 350 degree oven for 18 to 20 minutes ( convection oven’s may take a little longer to bake because it bakes at 325 degree) or bake until a cake tester comes out clean.
Let cool and add an icing glaze to the muffins, if you choose once they are cooled some.
My husband thought there were delicious this fall morning with his coffee!
