Sloppy Joe’s have been one of american’s favorite sandwich. It’s thought the sloppy joe orginated from a cafe’ in Iowa. Back in the 1950’s is was pretty popular to make sandwiches out of loose meat, hence the sloppy joe!
My recipe is a little different than an orginally sloppy joe recipe, because mine is gluten free, and I add beans.
Yes beans!
This recipe is actually a recipe my mom made. She would make this for our family as a fun weekend meal. My mom added beans I think to make the meal spread more, I like adding the beans for the extra protein.
Ingredients for Gluten Free Sloppy Joe’s
This recipe is so simple to make and it comes together in 20 minutes with just a few ingredients.
I add seasonings to the sloppy joe meat such as garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, black pepper, and a little salt, it gives a nice flavor to the ground meat. Ground turkey is what I used in this recipe but you could use ground beef as well.
I first brown the meat with the seasonings.
Adding the beans to the ground meat gives this sloppy joe recipe so much more flavor. My favoite beans to use are B&M baked beans that are in a jar, but today I used what was in the pantry. The best bean for this recipe would be a baked bean mixture in a can or jar. The added flavoring in the baked beans enhance the flavor in the sloppy joe recipe.
Many of the other ingredients used in the gluten free sloppy joe recipe you most likely have in your pantry or refrigerator. These ingredients would include gluten free barbaque sauce, ketchup, and mustard. I always make sure to read the labels to make certain the products are gluten free.
I add all ingredients to the skillet with the brownded ground meat, a one pan meal! It all cooks together with in 20 minutes, and you’ll have the best gluten free sloppy joe’s with extra protien!
