Happy New Year Let’s Recap The Past Year

Happy New Year Let’s Recap The Past Year!

It’s the new year!

Well 2023 has slipped right on by, I always like to recap the past year and think about what I would do differently for the upcoming year. I also like setting some goals or plans for the upcoming year.

This year, January is starting with some cold weather, and as I sit by the fire and think about a happy new year I recap the past year, I realize in 2023 I never sat by a fire all year! Nope, not one time! I hope to do more of this, in the coming year!

How quickly the year goes!

Gosh, how quickly the year goes, as it seems to the older I get. One thing I noticed when recapping my year is that we didn’t do as much as in previous years. What I mean is we seemed to work more this year. This new year I want us to have or do more fun things and go more places, although we need to work we can have fun and a happy year!

I also noticed this past year I did smaller home projects and I only did one large project. This past year I did more cleaning and thinning out of the stuff we have in our home and garage! You have no idea how much this was needed!

So Let’s Recap The Past Year

As I recap the past year I did have a lot of fun with the projects I did and I think they made a nice impact on our home.

At the beginning of the year I finally finished, well almost finished the pantry from the following year. Oh and let me tell you this has been one of my favorite projects from the year! All year it stayed clean and organized! I also had a little fun adding a little curtain to the bottom shelf. It looks so cute! I worked on the doors this year too and added handles. There is a little something more I want to do and I’ll share that soon! You can see the pantry here https://houseofmar.com/pantry-organization-ideas/

This project made it a happy new year and it’s fun to recap on it!

Some of the other projects from the past year were small but well worth it. One project was organizing my nightstand to make it more comfortable for me. I think it’s so important to feel and be comfortable in your home. So I shared the nightstand at the beginning of the year and how I arranged it. A small little project but so important to me. You can read all about it here, https://houseofmar.com/how-to-style-your-nightstand/

I do want to recap a little fun project I did in February for Valentine’s. As you know I did a lot of cleaning out last year. While I was cleaning and clearing I found a box of Valentine’s cards I had saved through the years. I didn’t want to throw them out so I made a little Valentine garland out of them. I hung it over the fireplace and later hung it in the foyer. A special keepsake from all the people I love. You can see this little project from last year here https://houseofmar.com/how-to-create-the-most-special-valentine-garland/

In February I also decided to paint some handles on my bureau that’s in the foyer, this is a project I had wanted to do for years! I used a $12.00 oil and rub paint and it came out so nice! I also used oil and rub on the pantry door handles. Here’s a picture of the project. Last year I shared this on my Instagram account in stories as well. It brightened the bureau, I wish I hadn’t waited years to do it!

Last Springs Recap

Recapping last spring I continued with the small projects. I found a few items I had been looking for while I was thrifting. The bronze sconces I redid and hung over the fireplace are a favorite and they have cozied up that space. I also reupholstered my counter stools in the kitchen for a little update. It’s so easy to do this type of reupholstering and it makes a pretty statement. Last year I also painted some picture frames and texturized them so they looked a little vintage. I went thrifting again, found another set of sconces, and used these in the kitchen. I painted these as well.

Last spring we also changed around some light fixtures because I found my favorite chandelier thrifting! I plan on doing some thrifting this year too as I always do! The chandelier I found I used in my bedroom if you remember a few years ago I found a pretty light fixture but I wanted a little more! This chandelier is a little more and it’s so elegant!

a little table redo for my new year recap

In early fall I painted a little sofa table that my mom had given me. It had been sitting in my basement for years and I wouldn’t part with it. This was a quick little project and I used chalk paint so I didn’t need to sand it down or worry about the paint not sticking. Chalk paint is wonderful to use for these types of projects. Also, chalk paint works well in the fall season with cooler temperatures. I painted it a bluish gray and it’s in my den/ office it looks so nice. Below are the scones I found for the kitchen. I did a paint refresh on these as well. I just love how this refresh looks in the dining area of my kitchen.

The Big Project of Last Year

Finally, the big project of last year was the powder bath! If you’ve been here for a bit you know all year I talked about this project. We just could not get it started! Every time we decided this was the weekend something would come up or something else needed to get done. It honestly took almost all year to get it started! Finally, in November, we did it! I am so happy with how it turned out I’m almost finished with the post and will share the before and after with you very soon! This was not a big redo just a budget update! I can’t wait to share it with you!!!

So this is my recap of the last year 2023

A recap of small projects and one bigger project that’s finally finished, Yaaaa!!!

The Coming Year’s Projects

This coming year I want to finish a few projects that I didn’t get done last year. One is the old grandfather clock I found on the Facebook marketplace. I’m also finishing up some picture frames for my walls. We are thinking of changing the office around a bit, I’m excited to do this! We have some paint projects, more cleaning out, and a few outdoor projects to do this year! I’ll be sharing all of it!

Do you have any home project plans this year, if so please share them with me! I’m always so happy to hear what you have planned!

Thank you for stopping back by and reading my post about Happy New Year Let’s Recap The Past Year.

Blessings!
