A Birthday Celebration With A Special Gluten-Free Dinner
A birthday celebration with a special gluten-free dinner happened a few weeks ago, my family and I celebrated my birthday with a special gluten-free dinner, it was so delicious!
I love celebrations, and making a special dinner everyone enjoys makes it much more special!
I wanted to start my Birthday dinner with a beautiful table. If you have been here for a while you know I like to set a pretty table cape. Whenever I set a table for a celebration I like to add a floral centerpiece to the middle of the table. I create a lower-scaled centerpiece so it’s more comfortable for conversation, and I won’t need to remove it from the table before dinner. By doing this I keep the centerpiece on the table for a pretty arrangement and still enjoy conversation with my guests.
I also love to add a beautiful tablecloth to my table, it dresses up any special dinner occasion. It doesn’t need to be expensive even a large scarf will work.
The tablecloth is where I start when creating a dinner tablescape.
Creating A Special Birthday Table Scape
After I have placed a tablecloth across the table I like to add a few items to create a special tablescape.
Using a charger plate or a placemat under the dinner plates adds a background frame to the plate giving it an enhancement and a beautiful aesthetics to the dining table.
When setting my table it doesn’t need to be very formal or fancy, I want it to feel special!
I decided to create a floral centerpiece in my dough bowl. I love using dough bowls for floral arrangements. It’s low enough and long enough to spread the length of the table. The arrangement turned out so pretty I have left it on the table to enjoy all spring!
I added white hydrangeas, blush pink roses, and some pretty greenery. My thrift-find silver candle holders with candles were added to the table and I tied a ribbon around the bottom of the candle holder.
A birthday is a special occasion so have flowers and use the pretty stemware, silverware, and china!

Making A Special Gluten Free Birthday Dinner
The morning of the dinner party after I set the table I got busy cooking my gluten-free dinner!
I knew it would be a special meal because I was making one of my favorites. My daughter had said she didn’t think it was right that I was cooking my birthday dinner. But having celiac disease and having to eat gluten-free I couldn’t go out to any restaurant and order the birthday meal I wanted. It’s not always easy to order out or eat at a restaurant when you have food allergies. Honestly, it was fine with me and I enjoy cooking so it was a fun day!
My special gluten-free birthday dinner was Chicken Cordon Blu with a light gravy sauce, buttered mashed potatoes, garlic asparagus, and parsley corn with gluten-free ciabatta herbed rolls. This is one of my favorite meals.
The Food At The Gluten Free Birthday Party
Chicken Cordon Blu is a simple enough entree to make as is the light gravy. I try to buy thin chicken breast or I use a meat tenderizer to make the chicken thinner.
When making the Chicken Cordon Blu I use mozzarella cheese instead of Swiss cheese, I like the taste better. A good brand of ham is used, usually, Krakus because it’s a little saltier than most ham.
Mashed potatoes can be made in so many ways! I try to keep it simple but I do add a few ingredients my grandma added to her mashed potatoes when she made them special for the holidays.
Mashed potatoes can be whipped up quickly for dinner and making the vegetables takes no time. My gluten-free ciabatta herbed rolls are a special little cheat recipe.
Asparagus may be one of my favorite vegetables, as long as it turns out crispy instead of mushy and I have figured out how to make them just that way! Parsley corn is a popular vegetable to serve at our dinner table. The cheat herbed ciabatta bread is so simple to make. I’ll share all of these recipes in the coming weeks.
Dessert
For the birthday dessert, I didn’t make it homemade. We ordered my birthday cake from one of my favorite bakeries. They make the best gluten-free cakes and I love the buttercream frosting. Vito’s Bakery is a local bakery I like, and their gluten-free cakes are so moist and yummy, just my favorite! We even had a cake for my husband. My husbands birthday is in January and our kids were sick with colds so we didn’t have a formal birthday celebration for him. This year we shared our birthday’s. My husband had his favorite, Italian Cassata cake another family favorite. The cake is rich made with ricotta cheese, dairy, and shavings of the best chocolate placed all over the cake.
We had a big celebration of birthdays!
I’ll be sharing the recipes for my gluten-free Chicken Cordon Blu and Buttery Mashed Potaots, the parsley corn, and how to make crispy asparagus very soon. These delicious recipes sure made my birthday dinner special!
